Improve Workshop Air Quality With an Air Filter System

Keeping your place clean, free from dirt and dust with the help of a good air filter system, is an instinct we can’t ignore. It is human nature to care for our surroundings, to make sure that our property is clean, and that we live in a safe environment.

This is the same for all workshops, whether it’s metalworking or a wood shop. Dust is an enemy that attacks the workers, the machines, and the materials within the work space. There must be a control in the spread of dust, a better way of preventing any accumulation to prevent health issues and mechanical concerns.

Simple tools like a broom and a dustpan are the basics of cleaning wood waste. But simply sweeping the waste off of the floor will not completely eliminate dust. Some go airborne and undetected.

This can trigger serious problems in the coming days when too much fine dust is inhaled. It is a persistent problem one needs to address with a long term solution.

Machine Shop Air Filtration: Ways to Prevent Dust Accumulation

Every workshop has seen the different types of dust:

  • Metallic dust
  • Mineral dust
  • Other chemical dust
  • Organic dust
  • Biohazard dust

It is imperative to have a dust-free workshop to ensure productivity and manpower wellness. Here are a few things that can help control this problem.

Use a downdraft sanding table. A downdraft sanding table immediately captures fine dust even before they go airborne. It is a large flat box or a cabinet-type box with small holes at the top (a perforated surface) where sanding is performed. Some downdraft sanding tables are equipped with built-in fans that automatically suck down the dust while some are connected to a heavy-duty vacuum or a collection system. This is best for workshops that do a lot of sanding.

Improve collection ductwork. Most shops, especially those that have huge production targets, have collection systems that are set with a main duct which has branch ducts that are connected to each machine. Always aim for straight ducts that connect the machine and the collector as this does not reduce airflow. It also lowers the possibility of air resistance that diminishes collection efficiency.

Install commercial air filters system. Although collection devices immediately capture dust as it is being created, these machines don’t capture all of the dust. Some particles can still go airborne and cause problems along the way. Air filtration systems are perfect for collecting fine particles and contaminants regularly to keep the indoor air clean. Additionally, high-end air filtration does not just filter and trap dust and other particles, it also purifies the air.

Advanced air filters are highly efficient in keeping dust and contaminants off of the indoor air. It is equipped with the right filter that does the job unquestionably. You don’t have to worry about dust or particles occasionally escaping from this thorough filtration process.
