Why Is Air Filter Efficiency Important?

Indoor air pollution has been a challenge for many businesses especially production and manufacturing industries. The health threats varies from short-term, where sore throat and eye irritation are common examples. Long-term effects poses more problems especially when there is respiratory complications, other forms of infection, or worse, cancer.

The growing number of micro-particulates emission is found to be one of the leading causes of poor indoor air quality (IAQ). The importance of IAQ has not been given a lot of attention even though a lot of the working population work indoors. But the abundance of indoor pollution isn't the only contributor to polluting the air, poor local exhaust ventilation is also a significant factor.

Why Is Air Filter Efficiency Important?

To address air pollution, air filters, cleaners, and purifiers were invented - way back in its first conceptualization in the 16th century. With time and the advancement of technology, filters are now more functional and efficient in trapping contaminants and pollutants.

Although all filters work the same, there are different types that function differently. Their uses match the severity of indoor pollution and the minuteness of the airborne microns. Different types of filters are also used in industrial settings.

Basic and HEPA Filters - This is the most common type which is made of foam, cotton, fiberglass, or a different kind of particle-trapping material. HEPA filters trap the most kind of particles in this category. It's a simple equipment that traps dust, dirt, and particles as the air passes through. It must be changed once a month to maintain its efficiency.

Electrostatic Filters - The airborne particles are electrically charged before collecting them in the machine. It uses a special kind of plate that traps particles and can be washed and reused multiple times. The downside is it produces ozone, so talk to an HVAC specialist first if you plan to use this filter.

Advanced air filtration system work as a team. Equipped with a high-end air purifier, the system doesn't just traps micro particles. It can be equipped with ultraviolet light to degrade bacteria and viruses, activated carbon to trap toxic chemicals and contaminants and eliminate unwanted odor or smell.
